“Well, spouses at Williams were only second class citizens and Bob just seemed to accept us as human beings worthy of taking part in discussions. I thought that was really very nice. Sometimes he would follow me out to the kitchen and say, “What do you think of such and such?” I was not a profound thinker but I had opinions. I felt it was great to be part of whatever was on his mind. Certainly many of my friends really enjoyed that but there were a few that felt that was a little unsettling. They wondered why that didn’t seem to bother me.
