“I think all of us had the feeling in the early-70s, beginning with the students who came as transfers from these other colleges, the classroom changed. Not that women would ask different questions, but women would sometimes be more participative in class then men. Bob and I talked about this. I said, “Bob, have you ever noticed that there are men who come into your classes and sit in the back rows with their baseball caps on the wrong way and don’t say anything?” And he said, “Yes, I notice that all the time.” And I said “What about the women who come in and sit in the middle or in the front?” He said, “They’re wonderful.”
