He always deflected questions about himself. I did drive with him on some stretch. “Well, what about you? What was your life like?” I know other kids, students, tried to do that too. But again he never wanted to divulge a whole lot. He would talk about his ideas, intellectually, for sure. But you know nothing too, too personal, not with me. The few things that we found about him–there were some pictures with a friend of his, I guess they traveled around, I don’t know if it was the whole world, or Africa, in a Land Rover, and a picture of him being carried by some friends after he broke his leg skiing or something. I don’t know, it was just so funny to think of him doing those kinds of things instead of just sitting there asking students questions.
