What was absolutely clear and fascinating to me is Bob’s family had absolutely no understanding of what he had done. This Eastern academia was absolutely a mystery to them. I think also they felt that in some ways he was kind of lost because he was the only one in that whole immediate family that left California. They all stayed rather close to one another and Bob was the guy who went off to Chicago and then off to Massachusetts. And this became very clear when we had the memorial for Bob and there was this tremendous outpouring of sorrow, and his family was here and they were absolutely stunned, is the only word for it. They had no idea.
